Project: Amma’s Ashes, a short film

"Amma's Ashes" was just selected by the Access Sacramento film studio as one of 10 screenplays to be produced this summer for the Place Called Sacramento Film Festival.

We're looking for South Asian women, men and teens, including one genderqueer teen/young adult actor.

There is no pay at this tome, but if you're traveling to Sacramento from out of town for the shoot, we can compensate for gas expenses. We can offer the chance to work with some of Sacramento's top professionals in a down-to-earth and supportive creative environment, as well as a movie credit. The film will be submitted to the festival circuit, and developed as a television series.

Here's a synopsis of "Amma's Ashes, or Mystery at the Sacramento River":

As eldest daughter and executor of her mother’s estate, Kaveri has three days to disperse her mother’s ashes in the Sacramento River, but first she must marshal her ragtag family and solve her mother's mystery.

Project: Mommy, Are We Poor?

Mommy, Are We Poor? is a full length stage play.

Chelsea is widowed single mom in her mid-30’s living in a run-down inner-city apartment, with two kids, two jobs, a jerk for a boss who’s trying to get into her pants, and a deadbeat ex who doesn’t pay child support, who combine to keep her harried and so broke that she can’t even pay attention. Her world begins to crumble after receiving an eviction notice, a credit card lawsuit, and almost having her car repossessed, just in time for Christmas. Despite working sixty plus hours a week, she’s on edge waiting to see if she gets the promotion and pay-raise she applied for, but is still clipping coupons in a one-hundred-foot-deep financial hole with only a fifty-foot ladder. Once her paycheck gets garnished, she can no longer rob Peter to pay Paul and is backed into a corner. Chelsea’s office Christmas party gets a little out of hand when Clark, her boss, presents her with an offer that will solve her financial problems. Faced with a choice of whether to buy food for her kids and put heating oil in her tank to get through the plunging temperatures of the harsh Massachusetts winter, or buy Christmas presents for her kids, Chelsea is tempted and confused about the offer from Clark.  Will accepting his money for time together and sexual favors make her a mistress that merely raises eyebrows and is reluctantly tolerated by society? Or will accepting his money make her a sex worker—that other type of “working girl?”

Chelsea accepts the offer, and although things are better financially for her and her kids, she discovers there is a costly emotional price to pay for her decision and is tormented over what example she may be setting for her children. Growing more uneasy with the direction of her life, and feeling that the cure may be worse than the disease, Chelsea meets with Maegan, a bright, young bankruptcy attorney. At the confidential consultation Chelsea learns that bankruptcy may not solve her financial problems, but actually complicate matters even more because she has a sexual harassment claim against Clark and the company. Chelsea learns that there are draconian legal consequences as a result of her choices and that the lines that divide money, sex and legalities are blurred at best. After meeting with Maegan and being advised of her legal rights, Chelsea feels even more trapped and tormented. Will she file bankruptcy and get a fresh start, but risk her reputation? Will she file a sexual harassment lawsuit to try to vindicate herself but risk losing her job? Will she get the promotion and pay raise? Or will she do nothing, which will allow her to remain financially stable, but emotionally insolvent?

Working Girl meets the #MeToo movement.

Project: Untitled Conservative Musical

A Musical Documentary following the making of a musical for off-Broadway. We'll be following the cast and crew through the whole process. Actors cast in the lead roles will be participating in the behind the scenes of the making of the musical as well as the staged musical itself should it come to fruition. Think project greenlight from HBO but focused on a staged musical production.

Our musical itself follows the story of a family that fights back against a super villain intent on world domination.
